Shade Tree

Kelly A. Larson

A gentle caressing sigh
A whisper heard by no one and everyone
A distant trilling begins
Muted
alone
Again     Again
Flowing forth with rhythmic urgency
Unexpectedly
An answer rises from crawling mists
Once again     the reply
More voices slowly, deliberately include themselves
Tweek, tweek tweeking
hooping-hoop                   Sawk Awk
oo-wit, oo
An inseparable jumble of sound attaining mystical harmonies
A choir rising and falling without thought
or care.
A dance begins
A backdrop of living green undulates
Riding upon whispering waves
hovering
gliding effortlessly
Quickly disappearing into the rippling floor
like a dart streaking at an unseen target
A shadow topped with a splash of fire
reveals itself
and is gone
A timid spirit with inherent grace and
hypnotic power -- clothed in earthen raiment
approaches
and passes on
soundless
A growl
A Monstrous, Sputtering, Massey-International
ROAR
Rips through the tranquility like a jagged saw
butchering
Dawn shudders
Eden fades.
