My Africa

        by Olivia Thomas

        i remember,
        remember my Africa,
        my beautiful Africa
Pure, brown earth, the origin of my whole being
from you i came, and surely i must return to you
i remember you as you were once, regal and majestic
        but
        now, i see
i see your wounded frame, and i weep
i weep for your suffering, oh my beautiful Africa
        Oh yes, I remember
remember the special times we had
        but, how could i forget
        the sun on my face
        the wind, my sole companion
the ocean as it rushes forward to kiss my feet
even as i walk, everything around me just perfect
the sand beneath my feet, the birds, the trees

my spirit as free as can be
        your love engulfing me
in this place i cannot think, but love
        such heavenly bliss
as i have never known, the feel of you and me
        we belong together
        never to be apart

        My beautiful Africa
make my heart beat once more like it used to

        Revive my spirit
kiss me once more with the kisses of your sweet fragrant winds
possessing every part of my soul once more with your love
produce your riches once more, just for me
shower me with your priceless beauty
because for you my Africa, i will be beautiful
        dark i am, yet lovely
made in your image who could be lovelier
allow me for today to melt away your worries
forget about tomorrow, think about us, here and now
i want to remember you like this
flawlessly beautiful, regal, majestic, wonderful to behold
i stand in awe of you
strengthen this blazing fire of love that i have for you
for many waters cannot, neither can any river
        quench its fiery passion
so allow me for today to dream
to dream about us, my Africa, and what we had
do not wake me till i so desire
just let me dream on and on and on ...
        my beautiful Africa.
