Informa de Guerra (War Report)
by Jim O'Neill
Amanecieron las flores hoy
atacades.
Ante la invasión inesperada
de la escarcha enemiga,
rosas, margaritas y uno
que otro
crisantemo tempranero
se veían agachados,
a punto de marchitarse.
Repentinamente,
sin trompeta
ni tambor,
intervino en la emboscada
el sol otoñal,
haciendo retirar
al helador rocío.
Las flores izaron
su bandera multicolor
y marcharon
al compás
triunfal
de la brisa de la manaña.
No hubo bajas.
The flowers awoke today
to a morning attack.
Under invasion
by an early frost,
roses, daisies and
early blooming
chrysanthemums
were bent double,
in danger of withering.
Suddenly,
without fanfare
or drumroll,
the autumn sun
interrupted the ambush,
forcing the freezing dew
into retreat.
The flowers
raised their
multi-colored flag
and marched
to the triumphal rhythm
of the morning breeze.
There were no casualties.
