Postcard from Manebozo

      by Pam Kalar

          Medicine basket
          feathers and shells
          Gifts from the
          Grandmother
          for humbled souls.

          Reed warp
          Brown gives depth
          Reed weft
          gold brings boundaries.

          Sleepy man
          gnarled in the hot
          morning sun
          sits, fondles
          medicine basket, feathers,
          shells, memories echoes.

          Drum beat defines
          answers to the winds
          Grandmother's gifts
          solemnly crafted to
          adorn plumeless bodies.
